What We Do

According to the definition of the International Council of Museums ICOM the State Museum Heidecksburg perceives itself as a permanent, non-profit institution in commission of the society and its development that is open to the public and which acquires, preserves, explores, publishes and exhibits factual witnesses of humans and their environment.

Heidecksburg palace is one of the biggest and most visited museums in Thuringia.
Respective its historically grown structure of collections the scientific work focuses on the manifold aspects of the residence culture at the court of the princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt.

The museum with its 14 permanent employees is financed by the administrative district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. It is a member of the “Museumsverband Thüringen e.V.“ (Thuringian Museums Association).
