The Creators: Gerhard Baetz and Manfred Kiedorf

During the 1950s Manfred Kiedorf (Berlin) and Gerhard Baetz (Fulda) got to know each other at the Thuringian town of Sonneberg. This was the beginning of their great game of “flaunting” lasting until today. In the course of decades they created ten castles, about 1000 single figures and just as many pieces of furniture. There is no comparable project in the German speaking area regarding its extent, opulence and attention to detail.

In 2007, after negotiations of several years, the Thuringian State Museum Heidecksburg and the administrative district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt were finally able to acquire the collection for the Heidecksburg palace on a permanent basis. The miniature world represents an ideal supplement for the “real” residence castle as it shows how the courtly life probably looked like.
