The Ethnological Collection

Objects from Japan, Sumatra, Africa & China

The ethnological collection of the museum has obtained an exceptional position. It traces back to a foundation of Hermann Schilling, head of the forestry and governing council. In 1941, Schilling donated 180 art objects and everyday items to the museum, which he had purchased during his stay in Japan from 1899 to 1903. Among those items, the collection also contains objects from Sumatra, the African continent and China.
