Joachim Grambeck's passion for collecting began over 30 years ago. Up to the present, a continuously growing collection with over 250 animal sculptures from the time of 1910 to 1930 has been created. Fascinating animal models by outstanding sculptors show the new artistic challenges of the great German porcelain manufactories Meissen, Nymphenburg, Berlin and Schwarzburgian workshops for porcelain art founded in 1909 by Max Adolf Pfeiffer in Thuringia. This extensive Grambeck collection with its extraordinary quality and remarkable variety of animal sculptures represents porcelain design on its way to modernity.

This book pays tribute to the work of the artist Volkmar Kuehn, who lives in the Thuringian monastery of Mildenfurth. In this refuge – away from the major art centres – a considerable oeuvre was created, which to this day includes numerous clay works and fireclay as well as bronze sculptures. In its entirety, it displays a remarkable stylistic coherence and, in contrast to many other artists, does not reveal any breaks or phasic changes in the perception of form.
Volkmar Kuehn and the Thuringian State Museum Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt have had a close relationship for over 20 years and several joint projects have been realised. In spring 2015, the Foundation of the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt District Savings Bank and the Foundation of the Hesse-Thuringia Savings Bank acquired part of Volkmar Kuehn's small sculptural oeuvre as well as the horse sculpture »Roter Huzule« and donated this collection to the museum.
The publication meticulously traces Volkmar Kuehn's oeuvre in various art-historical and cultural-historical essays and thus enables the work to be weighted and evaluated in the context of the development of contemporary sculpture.

Alfred Traugott Moerstedt lived in Erfurt and is considered one of the most important artists of the second half of the 20th century who had his centre of life in Thuringia. The precious luminosity of his imaginative pictorial inventions and the sovereignty of his artistic presentation are still remembered. Together with the »Alfred Traugott Mörstedt-Stiftung« (Alfred Traugott Moerstedt Foundation), founded in 2013, the Heidecksburg Museum presented a show of works from the artist's estate from 5 September 2015 to 28 February 2016.

One focus of the ceramics collection in the Thuringian State Museum Heidecksburg are porcelains from the Schwarzburg workshops with a little more than 200 objects. The Judaica collection is one of the most valuable holdings in the Thuringian State Museum Heidecksburg in terms of cultural history. More than 35 objects, including 15 unique synagonal textiles, numerous books, two Torah scrolls, four prayer tablets and several manuscripts, bear witness to the religious life of the small Jewish community in Rudolstadt.
In terms of content, the volume offers information on the history of the Jews in Rudolstadt as well as interesting facts about the religious function of the Jewish textiles. The synagonal textiles have been given special attention because of their rarity.
