Special exhibitions are a welcome opportunity to present the museum's collections to the public. As a rule, these exhibitions are preceded by lengthy scientific and restoration work on the objects, the results of which ideally appear in a publication accompanying the exhibition.
We hope you enjoy our current special exhibitions. Do you have any questions about a visit? Here you find all the information or contact us. We are happy to be there for you!
2024 | Friedrich Adolf Richter in Rudolstadt
A Changing District
November 29, 2024, to February 28, 2025
At the Painting Gallery in Heidecksburg Palace
Approaching Rudolstadt from the west, the striking red brick buildings and the Richter Villa are impossible to miss. In 1877, Friedrich Adolf Richter founded a successful company, gaining worldwide fame for his production of pharmaceuticals and toys. The entire factory complex, along with its equipment and functionality, was designed to be promotional. Even during his time, Richter implemented the concept of a "transparent factory," combining work, living, and leisure.
This Christmas exhibition vividly showcases the changes in a part of Rudolstadt over more than 100 years. Historical photographs from private collections, promotional items, and the popular Anchor Stones from the Rudolstadt-based Ankerstein GmbH provide fascinating insights into the district's and company's history.
Opening: November 29, 2024, at 5:00 PM
2024 | SugarCastle
June 18 to November 3, 2024
in the Lengefeld'schen Stube and the Graphic Cabinet in Heidecksburg Residential Palace
The photo artist Jan von Holleben will bring photographic works from the “SugarWOW” series into the baroque rooms of Heidecksburg Residential Palace and place them in relation to porcelain from the museum's collection. In the so-called Graphic Cabinet, the presentation will continue with newly created photographic works by Jan von Holleben, from which a unique photo children's book will be produced. Holleben's photographic illustrations are themselves a fantasy land: the room shots are supplemented with all kinds of sweet treats and confectionery to create a magical journey from the here and now to the 18th century.
Exhibition opening: June 16, 2024, 3 p.m., Porzellangalerie
